The 20 richest stations in Marseille

The 20 metro and tram stations whose surrounding IRIS shows the highest median income in 2021.

Distribution across the 66 stations the survey could price.

Colour runs on rank, not on the raw figure, so the ramp is spent evenly across the network. The wash under the lines spreads that colour between neighbouring stations, so the pattern reads at a glance. Dot size is annual ridership. Hover a station for its numbers. Zoom in for the dense middle of the network: pinch, use the +/- buttons, or double-click, then drag to pan.

The income shown is the median disposable income per consumption unit (INSEE Filosofi 2021) for the IRIS the station sits in, or for the nearest residential IRIS within 1,500 m when the station lands in a non-residential area. An IRIS holds around 2,000 residents, which is the finest geography France publishes income at, and it describes the neighbourhood rather than the riders. The ranking draws two directions. To the south: Rond-point du Prado, first at 32,360 EUR, La Gaye (28,670 EUR), Hôpital Sainte-Marguerite (27,400 EUR), then Parc du 26ème Centenaire and Périer at 24,400 EUR. To the east: Saint-Barnabé (30,090 EUR), La Fourragère (26,450 EUR) and the whole T1 branch toward Saint-Jean du Désert, where Air Bel, La Boiseraie, La Grognarde and La Parette share one IRIS at 24,450 EUR. The centre only shows up with Estrangin - Préfecture (29,060 EUR) and Castellane, which closes the top 20 at 22,370 EUR. Of the 67 stations on the network, sixteen were attached to the nearest residential IRIS, including Rond-point du Prado, 336 m from the IRIS used, so the leading figure describes a neighbourhood rather than the junction itself.
