The income shown is the median household income of the census tract containing the station (American Community Survey 2018-2022, table B19013, in current dollars). It describes the surrounding neighborhood, not the riders. The top is the Castro and the corridor running south east from it: Duboce Triangle, Noe Valley, Dogpatch and Mission Bay, with SoMa and the west side (West Portal, Parkside, Ingleside) close behind. The $250,001 figure is the ACS top-code and is censored, so the true top of the list is higher than it looks. Many entries here are surface stops rather than stations, and neighbouring stops a block apart share one tract, which is why the same value repeats.
